Chianti Wine

The DOCG Chianti is made in the five provinces of Tuscany, thse of Sienna, Florence, Arezzo, Pistoia and Pisa. Here the best-known red wine in all Italy is obtained.

The DOCG Chianti is not only produced from cultivars of Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia di Chianti grapes, but also with the addition of additional varieties. The aged wine that has passed successfully all quality controls makes them vivacious and round. The use of the geographic specifications of Montalbano, Rufina, Colli Fiorentini, Colli Senesi, Colli Aretini and Colline Pisane is allowed when the wine comes from grapes that are picked and processe in the respective territories.

Within the DOCG Chianti, the minimum graduation is of 11.5° for the Chianti, Chianti Colli Aretini, Senesi, Pisane and Montalbano; 12.5º for the Chianti Colli Fioretini, Monteespertoli and Rufina.

In the subzone Chianti, in order to get the qualification of Reserve, the alcohol content must be of 12.5º and the aging of 2 years, spending at least three months in the bottle, so that the superior wine can be considered a reserve wine, though in this case the alcohol content must not be over 12°.
